1.    Introduction

WaterAid is an international non-governmental organisation. Our mission is to transform lives by improving access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) in the world’s poorest communities. WaterAid globally promotes Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM). In Pakistan, WaterAid is closely working with education and health departments, civil society, MHM working groups, and private sector across the country to advocate with them for integrating MHM in their policy and plans through a national MHM movement. WaterAid is also implementing a three-year project HerWASH in District Thatta, Sindh. The main objective is to improve management of menstrual hygiene for women and girls through enhanced government and civil society responsiveness. It also aims at increasing the provision, awareness and use of girls and women friendly hygienic facilities and products in schools, healthcare centres and communities. 

2.    Reporting line

The Project Coordinator will report to the Project Manager - HerWASH.

3.    Key working relationships

Internal: Head of Programmes and other Programme team members, Programme Quality team, Communications Coordinator, Provincial Coordinators, Manager People & Org Development and Admin team.

External: Partners, MHM Champions, consultants, sector stakeholders, and other NGOs.

4.    Key Responsibilities

·       Support Manager HerWASH in ensuring effective and timely delivery of agreed outputs and outcomes as set-out in the project documents

·       Lead in specific and delegated aspects of the MH Movement

·       Ensure balance in focus between the HerWASH Project, MHM Movement and any evolving opportunities related WASH and Gender

·       Undertake regular field visits to assess effective and efficient delivery of projects by implementing partners and provide feedback with respect to achievements, shortcomings, and further improvements

·       Assist in preparing project proposals, detailed implantation plans (DIPs) and budgets

·       Review data received from the field and support partners in developing high quality monthly/quarterly/six-monthly and annual progress reports for WaterAid and donors as per prescribed format and contents

·       Ensure that the required project data and information is updated in Project Centre (an online MIS system of WA) periodically

·       Support in preparing quarterly project reviews with partners and internally for Programme Performance Reflections (PPRs)

·       In consultation and close coordination with Manager HerWASH, organise provincial and national level events, through effective coordination with provincial coordinators, MHM champions, implementing partners and MHM working group members.

·       Assist and facilitate project evaluation processes

·       Engage with consultants to ensure their timely delivery of assigned tasks

·       Establish an interface with other programme units and WAP Provincial Coordination offices.

·       Maintain repository of all final approved project documents on shared drive

·       Support Manager HerWASH in partner capacity building and organising training events

·       Actively participate in staff meetings, learning events and contribute to team-building initiatives

·       Lead projects in the absence of Manager HerWASH, in consultation with the Head of Programmes

·       Where required represent WaterAid in internal and external forums/events.

·       Undertake any other programme related official tasks assigned by the supervisor time to time

5.    Person specifications



Education and Knowledge

·       Masters’ degree in Gender Studies, Public Health or related social sciences from an HEC recognised university or from abroad

·       Understanding of technical, social and institutional issues related to menstrual hygiene management both in rural and urban areas

·       Understanding of gender and women issues in rural and urban contexts of Pakistan

·       Knowledge of provincial level administrative structures and policies.

·       Good understanding of community level issues of drinking water, sanitation and hygiene in Pakistan

·       Demonstrable understanding and experience of gender equity issues and their relevance to development work


·       Minimum 3-5 years of proven experience in gender equity or women health projects

·       Proven experience of monitoring and supervising partner led projects with national/ international organisations

·       Proven experience in leading and/or supporting campaigns on women’s issues

·       Proven experience in the use of social media for campaigns and influencing

·       Experience of developing training programmes and facilitating training activities

·       Experience of dealing with government departments

·       Experience of planning & organising provincial/ national level seminars/ conferences

·       Working experience on menstrual hygiene management related projects will be preferred

·       Understanding of local languages of Pakistan

·       Basic knowledge and understanding of water, sanitation and hygiene related work.


·       Good oral and written communication skills in English and Urdu

·       Analytical and reporting skills

·       Facilitation and coordination skills

·       Computer skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and web searching/ browsing
